A 'civilization clash' between Japan Snow monkeys and Hibagon!

The snow monkeys are the most northerly non-human primate in the world. They favorite while spending the winter when temperatures drop to below freezing and snow covers their habitat - warming up in the volcanic hot springs. While 'Hibagon' is a mysterious creature equivalent to Yeti and Sasquatch.

I wonder how these species will react if they are meet with each other..

A simple animatic for one of my last semester's assignments. The animatic just show 1/7 of scenes from the proposed storyboard. The main idea behind the task is to show how good you are in the Pre-production, rather than stressing only on technical skills in the Production process. Pre-production require massive research and thinking process on the selected subject.

My area of research is... err, frog?, haha.

The actual research is on the environmental issue, in specific the pollution of aquatic ecosystem. Frog is an amphibian species which has long synonyms with its watery habitat. Thus it's relevant to use this leaping creature as an icon that reflects to aquatic ecosystem for the proposed animation.

It's been almost 3 months since I left Inspidea to further my studies in Master in New Media studies. I miss all of the projects, atmosphere, spirit and people there especially the guys in the Pre-Pro and the Layout team. U guys rawks! Forget not, the Jati restaurant which is located behind the office- the most gay-ish mamak ever! hahaha...

In my last day working at Inspidea, we have a small farewell and new year party which is a total awesome! Lots of pizzas and food. My layout team leader Edward Gan has gifted me this awesome sketchbook. The cover was drawn by himself! He also gave his short yet memorable speech; 'I want you to use this sketchbook. Maximize it, full it up with your drawing. Draw everyday. Never stop to draw!". Simple yet inspiring indeed.

Azizan Talkis aka Jawa is one of my best buddies back in the univ years, where he also was consistently being my room mate for 5 semesters. We share the same passion, which is art, off course.

In a simple description, Azizan is an another Leonardo Da Vinci which is trapped in a small Javanese guy's body. He is a fully spirited artist, who really believe his faith on his art. It's true that I still admire him for that.

Hang Tuah with his “Taming Sari” Keris/kriss practicing silat. It is said that with this keris, Hang Tuah became invulnerable or invincible, and he defeated all opponents with this keris in his hand. This Majapahit originated Keris have long been considered a talisman; used more as a charm than as a weapon.

There are some glowing mantra appeared, written in Jawi. Jawi is a form of Malay language script which adapting Arabic alphabet.

Raja Bersiong (The Fanged King). A popular Malaysian legendary character taken from Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa. The king was known as Raja Ong Maha Perita Deria who lived during ancient Kedah kingdom. He has a very unique culinary appetite-craved for human blood. One day, his cook accidentally cut his finger while preparing for the king's meal but later, the king found the dish to be very tasty. He used force upon the cook to find out about the secret to the tasty meal. The cook was not left with a choice but to reveal that the secret ingredient was the drip of blood from his finger that fall into the dish. From thereon, the king sacrificed his subjects in order to get the human blood to be added to his meal. But later he was hunted down for his atrocity.

My cartoons entries for an international cartoon contest. The subject is 'a car' and 'future car'. I think I can't win any of those prizes as the contest has a strong sense of editorial cartoon styles, where I'm in nature aren't. Editorial cartoon usually is a type of cartoon that simple in form and styles, yet have very sharp and strong punch in delivering its message.

I think I'm really stuck between two of them, - comic and cartoon styles. Not neither is excelled. hmm what the heck, this contest is a fun challenge anyway.

There we done some art activities for the school kids, such as edu talk, art workshop, group activities, and yeah we draw mural on that 12 m x 3 m wall. Errr... f.o.c. Illustration Friday - Flawed

A boy trying to fix up his 'flawed' cyborg girl. The cyborg is inspired from a Kate Micucci pic, which she's wearing a wolf on her head. Besides to put the same animal theme, I chose to use bunny instead of wolf as her headgear. Albeit weird, but the idea to put animal on your head is quite inspiring and cool~. Something kind of self character-expression I think.

Forgive me for the sketchy and unfinished look as am too lazy to finish anything lately. The topic is 'flawed' anyway... so I assume it just do the work. Hoho.. how escapist I am. Still, I'm still weak in colouring, thus I'm convincing myself that I'll do many colouring exercises in the future..(sigh, yeah really...).

The Challenge

The Hamburg International Short Film Festival has its roots in the independent filmmaking scene. The Festival first took place in 1985 under the title NoBudget, a name which clearly defined the Festival’s mission. In 1994 it received its current name. Since it was founded, it has always been the Festival’s aim to rise to the challenge presented by new developments and changing parameters in technology, society, and aesthetics.

The 25th Hamburg International ShortFilmFestival will take place from 2 - 8 June 2009. The submission deadline is 15 February 2009. Films for the Three-Minute Quickie competition (the topic 2009 is 'Human Error') have to be submitted by 1 April 2009.

This week topic is 'resolve'. The first thing that struck into my mind is kamikaze. In Japanese, kamikaze means divine wind. Nowadays the word of Kamikaze has been generally accepted as to symbolize the act of self-sacrifice, determination and men with the nerve of steel, and yet romanticism. Oops, I'm not trying to glorifying the kamikaze nor Imperial Japanese Army and their atrocities in WW2.

Interesting fact that most of the 'volunteer pilot' is actually youth as young as 16 years old, and none was have done proper flight training. It was ironic that most of them crying loud calling their mother on their one-way mission. "It's all a lie that they left filled with braveness and joy, crying, 'Long live the emperor!' They were sheep at a slaughterhouse. Everybody was looking down and tottering. Some were unable to stand up and were carried and pushed into the plane by maintenance soldiers,"-Wiki.

Here I expressed the word 'resolve' as an illustration of a Kamikaze pilot in the last moment of his mission. Recently I'm mad in experimenting with PS filter action, and the result is wal-lah! Four different vintage moods. He he..

Illustration Friday - Clandestine

This is my first entry for Illustration Friday. The topic for this week is 'clandestine'. Here I chose to draw a comical situation in local secondary school where there are two school boys trying to playing truant on their class. The two boys seems are not aware that their teacher is just behind them, ready to give some direct salvos of rattan. They're in plain 'caught in the act' situation. So I think I just named it as Caught in the Act.

Actually the illustration is based on my school life experiences. I depict myself there... and yeah, I played truant quiet often back then. I think the best word to refer this kind of act is 'adventurous'. Heh heh...

Fables 10 - The Good Prince

Recently I've fallen in luv with these,- Fables comic book series, although I only has 1 out of 11 series. Fables 10- The Good Prince. Hehe, yeah i know i'm quiet so last century. Fables is a Vertigo comic book series written by the genius Mr. Bill Willingham. Well, in a rough synopsis the comic's entitled has reflected the comic's all about-fables. Bill Willingham creatively has twisted and highly exaggerated many fables stories into his own indigenous story, which has been so complex that in my humble opinion its should be re-called in a a precise term, graphic novel. Another to mention, violence includes.

How about the arts? Well, its just awesome. Fables has lots of mouth-watering and inspirational illustrations, besides damn dramatic sequential. There are several great names behind the arts, James Jean,Todd Klein, Mark Buckingham, Jill Thompson and Steve Leialoha. It takes me almost a week to absorb those arts in this comic. Burp!~ I'm totally overloaded haha...nope, I'm hunger for more! The hunt for next series has just begun!

I've juz bought this book at MPH SACC Mall Shah Alam on last weekend, and guess what? 350 pg+trade paperback+hardcover+glossy n quality print+made by 2 greatmasters and it juz cost me solid RM20! Haha great! Totally worth buying.

This is not an ordinary text written based book, but actually is an illustrated film script (storyboard) of a motion picture which the book names derived from it. In a simple word, this book is a compilation of art concepts for MirrorMask film.

MirrorMAsk is a 2005 fantasy film of James Henson Company, directed and designed by Dave McKean, and written by Neil Gaiman. Frankly, I've never watch or even heard this movie before.. hmm limited release maybe.

Taiyo Matsumoto's No 5

Some moths ago, i've managed to read and extract this unique (or can I juz say weird) manga by Taiyo Matsumoto. Taiyo Matsumoto is an influential manga artist nowadays in Japan which has been famous for his comics, namely PingPong. Thru this comic, it's obviously revealed that he has much been influenced by European comic artists styles such as Moebius.

Somes even claimed that No. 5 is one of the rarest manga in today's market. No more than 1000 copies of this manga has been sold worldwide. Anyway, thanks zillions for Mr. Karna Mustaqim for let me borrowing this...hehe.

Participate in the record breaking for the longest comic art, organized by PeKomik Malaysia. PeKomik is stand for Persatuan Komik Malaysia (Malaysia Comic Society?). There are many local cartoonists and comickers was involved in this event such as Kromosom, Eisu, Popia, Alifstyle and many more. Mr. Azhar Abdullah the PeKomik president is in the last picture.. err backing the camera actually.

A freshly scanned illustration for my MSC comic project entitled Ahmad's Adventure. Still in a raw mode, not yet edited. The mass spiral background is purposedly to create 'uncertainly and chaos' feel. Heavily influenced from Persian/Islamic illumination style.

DBP children comic

Hastily done. This 1-page comic pilot/prototype and character designs is for one of upcoming DBP children comic. Actually the project is offered to Ryda and Anno in May, which they are already heavily engaged with their final degree show project. In a sudden of time, I've been asked to give them a hand in this project...and why not?

It's quite fun for me to play around with those multi-racial characters such as Samy(Indian) and Chong (Chinese). Through the character making process, I try to squeeeeezed in some of common appearance and characteristics (I think) of each races respectively.

The 1st illustration above entitled "cello" (cello?correct me if I'm wrong). Done in February 2004.

Recently I've just digging deep into my pc old hard disk..and yikes! I've found some of my very very (I mean VERY) old artworks... Let's get a look at some of them. The 1st illustration above entitled "cello" (cello?correct me if I'm wrong). Done in February 2004.

The 2nd entitled 'Mira' (July 2004), 3rd "Lil' Gal" (August 2004) and the final is 'The Last Stand". The later was inspired by the tale of Hitler Jugend/Hitler Youth in the final struggle of Nazi in Berlin, May 1945.

p/s: kinda odd isn't it? For sure it is.. All of the them have been made entirely in the early years of my diploma studies..

Me and my partner-in-crime IdaMandarin have won the MSC Malaysia Digital Comic Design Competition 2007, which was held at Cyberjaya Cyberview Lodge Hotel, on 13th August 2007. Sadly, IdaMandarin didn't make it to appear in this pic, cuz she is in China to further his study in Mandarin language for a month (no wonder her nick is IdaMandarin, right?). As one of the grant winners, I need to continue my propose comic project in a 6 month timeframe. Mati!

Whew~ I did it! (clap clap clap). my 1st effort to put my works here.. the blogging system is quiet easy to use though..
